“I try to gently derail the viewer and offer them a different angle.”
Ašot Haas
Thirteen years after Inside, Haas returns to the gallery where he once built the round optical element that still divides its permanent and temporary halls. Resonare is a dark, focused refuge from the summer outside: cold white light, slow rotations and an ambient layer of sound, broken by accents of light that refract, pulse and reflect in optical materials.
New kinetic objects, light installations and reliefs explore the meeting of movement, light and optical illusion. Precise geometry, and the fragile instability of what the eye believes it sees.
Drag to walk around him
For Insight at the Slovak National Museum, Haas took Michelangelo’s David and set him spinning. The rotation deforms the figure into a symbol of the tireless reach for the unreachable, and the old story of David and Goliath, the underestimated one who wins, becomes a message for now.

In 1919 the engineer Marcel Tolkowsky calculated the proportions of the ideal round brilliant. Haas scanned Tolkowsky brilliants, made his own versions, cast them in optical glass and coated them in a vacuum. The diamond series premiered at Insight.

Luminous Nexus joins 96 faceted light objects into a single living body across three floors. Each brilliant stands for one company, distinct and valuable. Together they breathe in one rhythm.

A livery drawn from aerodynamics. Layered foils of moiré graphics simulate depth and motion on a flat surface, so the car seems to move even while it stands still.
